Whether this is an initial visit (75 mins) or a follow up (60 mins), this is the option to have a one-on-one treatment with your practitioner. We will discuss your health history, current complaints, and your goals for treatment. Treatment will include acupuncture (+ cupping, gua sha, bodywork, warming lamp and/or herbal prescriptions as your practitioner sees fit). We will also discuss a personalized treatment plan based on your assessment. This is a great option if you are experiencing a complicated issue or multiple issues, if you know one or more of the additional modalities have been of benefit to you in the past, and/or if you have a preference for having the room to yourself.

group acupuncture

**CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE**

Initial visits and follow up visits are both 60 mins, in which time you and your practitioner will quietly and briefly discuss any current complaints and relevant medical history in a shared room with 1-2 others receiving treatment. We will swiftly move into your acupuncture treatment (cupping, gua sha, and herbal consultations will not happen at these visits unless there is a gap in schedule and/or the practitioner sees as highly necessary). This is a great option for those who have uncomplicated cases, who are looking for general wellness &/or stress reduction, and/or who are looking for a more budget-friendly option.

Unlike other group acupuncture settings, we only use massage tables (no chairs at this time) and we have curtains separating each treatment area.

more about services…

  • acupuncture

Acupuncture is an Indigenous medicine of East Asia that involves the insertion of single use, hair-thin needles into specific points on the body to reduce symptoms of disease and strengthen the body. It is time-tested and backed by modern science.

  • bodywork

Bodywork at dearbody is usually targeted to one area of your body and might include myofascial work, tuina, or and/or craniosacral therapy.

  • gua sha

Gua sha is a technique that uses any tool with rounded edges to press onto the body (or face). It is often used in clinic to help break up muscle adhesions, increase blood flow, & reduce pain. We most often use this technique for neck and shoulder pain.

  • warming lamp

TDP lamps hover over body areas, warming & relaxing muscles & fascia and, therefore, helping to increase circulation, decrease inflammation, and reduce pain.

  • cupping

Involves the application of suction cups, which feels like a “reverse massage.” Cupping helps to increase blood flow, reduce stagnation, lactic acid, toxins and more to help reduce pain.

  • moxibustion

Moxibustion involves burning a Chinese medicinal herb at certain points of the body to create warming & stimulate “qi” & blood flow at the point and along the channel. The character for moxibustion is included in the Chinese character for acupuncture, as they have long been used together.

  • herbal prescriptions

Herbal medicine is the use of plant, animal, and mineral substances in a formula. Chinese medicine formulas are unique in that they are used in groups (not individually) to create a more balanced treatment with minimal to no side effects. Herbal medicine can be very powerful at treating a multitude of diseases, but I often find myself prescribing it for women’s health e.g. regulating menses, etc.; cold & flu symptoms; & allergies.

  • electro-acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture, also referred to as “estim,” is similar to acupuncture, except that it involves stimulating 2 needles with an electrical current. Don’t worry! This does NOT feel like electricity. It often feels like dull tapping and can be very effective at treating chronic pain along with many other conditions.

  • diet and lifestyle

I will always remember a professor saying “you can not herb-prescribe your way out of getting adequate sleep. You cannot tonify your way out of eating properly.” Nothing replaces sleep, “good choices diet,” & adequate exercise, as much as fad diets and coffee will allow you to think. Acupuncture and East Asian medicine can help with some of these issues (sleep, energy, stress, GI distress), but if there are lifestyle factors that are negatively affecting these areas of your life or foods that are causing the disease you are coming in for, then these are things that will need to be addressed. It’s up to you!
